Mission Statement

The purposes for which OceansWatch North America has been formed are exclusively to conduct charitable, public health, educational and scientific activities within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended (the "Code") within marine ecosystems and coastal communities in any country that is recognized by the United Nations as a developing country, as more specifically defined below:

  • To preserve and maintain coastal areas and marine resources;
  • To assist the sustainable development of the economy of individuals and communities;
  • To provide emergency humanitarian assistance;
  • To relieve hunger, poverty or sickness;
  • To assist the development of education systems;
  • To promote the sustainable economic development and regeneration of coastal communities which are socially and/or economically disadvantaged;
  • To educate coastal communities in the sustainable management of their marine resources;
  • To support marine research where the result of the research will be disseminated to others;
  • To protect the marine environment including the preservation of reefs, marine animals and plants;
  • To promote and support efforts to ameliorate the impact of climate change;
  • To foster, promote and increase interest in marine conservation;
  • To acquire and maintain a fleet of yachts to act as project lead boats to achieve the foregoing objectives;
  • To carry on any other charitable objective which may be conveniently carried on within the above charitable purposes.
