OceansWatch North America (OWNA) uses sailboats to deliver marine conservation and humanitarian aid to islands and coastal communities in developing countries.
Working with sailors, divers, students, volunteers, doctors, nurses, ecologists and scientists, we undertake projects that help islands and coastal communities protect their marine environment, develop sustainable, healthy living standards and ensure that all children can attend primary school. Join us to help with projects such as Reef Checks and marine mammal surveying, humanitarian projects such as providing medical aid, supporting local schools and installing drinking water, sanitation and clean energy systems.
The emphasis of OceansWatch North America will be to deliver programs in the Caribbean, Central and South America as well as supporting projects in the Pacific, South Pacific and other areas world-wide. We are presently refitting the 90' Schooner Dolphin in Connecticut to be the flagship and project lead vessel for the organization when she is done. In the meantime, Director Donna Lange's sloop "Inspired Insanity" and Executive Director Sequoia Sun's sloop "Nepenthe", along with "Magic Roundabout" in New Zealand and other members' boats, will be used as project lead vessels. In partnership with other organizations, in 2009 we are initiating a project in support of schools and children in Haiti and Dominican Republic, with additional projects under development.
